What is the difference between a Blue Topaz, and an Aquamarine?

Posted by admin on September 20th, 2009 and filed under aquamarine | 2 Comments »

Aquamarine is the blue or blue-green member of the beryl family and is ranked 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs’ scale. The colors of aquamarine range from the lightest blue of the sky to the deepest blue of the sea, hence the name, but the most valuable are those aquamarines deepest in tone and color saturation. Women all over the world love aquamarine because its color suits almost any complexion or eye color. Aquamarine is the traditional birthstone for March.
The name "topaz" likely originated from Topazos, an ancient Red Sea island. Topaz can be yellow, orange, light to dark blue, pink-red, red, violet, light green, and colorless. Some are enhanced with colorful treatments to create special effects. On Mohs’ hardness scale, topaz is a tough 8. Sources include Brazil (Minas Gerais), Afghanistan, Australia, Myanmar (Burma), China, Japan, Madagascar, Mexico, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia (Urals, Transbaikalia), Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and the U.S.

Where can I buy greenish aquamarine jewelry?

I’ve been looking everywhere for that color, but they’re always too blue for my skintone.

Thanks

Go to the International Gem and Jewelry shows. You have a big selection and if not, talk to the exhibitors and maybe they can recommend something.

Do you think this ring is pretty?

Hi, this really is my first ring ever…and I think it’s really pretty, but I guess I’ve been looking at it so much I’ve started to critique it a little..opinions please?

Its a nice ring, look like it would go well with jeans and even something dressy. good job picking it out!

when it comes to jewelery do you like it more if it were a brand name, like Tiffany’s?

Posted by admin on September 16th, 2009 and filed under aquamarine jewelry | 17 Comments »

For my bridesmaids I was going to find a nice design of jewelry (found one I really like from Tiffany) and have it made by a local jeweler so that it would be less expensive, but still great quality (good quality real diamonds and aquamarines)

My fiance thinks because its a special occasion we should just drop the bankroll and pay the extra money for designer jewelry, so it will be even more special for them. To me though it never really mattered, I mean diamonds are diamonds haha. Its not that we can’t afford it, I am just curious about the general feeling.
Haha I dont want to trick them, or copy an exact necklace, just the general idea.
Dingding: Don’t worry I am not an idiot, I own a home, a rental property, have a job, a college degree and have a nice chunk of change in the bank. I know what I can afford, but thank you for your concerns.

For your bridesmaids, I’d say go with Tiffany. Every girl likes opening that little blue box!

For an engagement ring or jewelry for myself, I wouldn’t care either way, but for a gift…there’s just something extra special about it coming from Tiffany.

Where’s the best/cheapest place (in the USA) to dig for gemstones priced by the day?

Posted by admin on September 14th, 2009 and filed under aquamarine gemstone | 3 Comments »

I’m interested in all gemstones: black opal, amethyst, citrine, quartz, aquamarine, etc. I especially am interested in the unusual-like the black opal. I’d prefer sites in the southeastern part of the country; Georgia in particular.
Don’t just give me the name of a state. States are big. DUH! Where in the state? How about the name of a mine? THIS would answer the question. I already know there’s gems all over the SE part of the country and in every state. I just need to know WHERE, WHAT TOWN, WHAT’S THE NAME OF THE BUSINESS THAT ALLOWS PRIVATE MINING?

There’s a diamond mine in Arkansas that you can go to to "pan" for diamonds. Very recently, someone found a 100+ carat diamond in that pit.

If my girlfriends birthstone is opal but the alternate is pink torumaline and i get the tourmaline is that ok?

Posted by admin on September 14th, 2009 and filed under aquamarine stones | 10 Comments »

Im getting my girlfriend a promise ring with our birthstones in it mine is aquamarine and hers is opal all the birthstones have alternates my question is if i get the stones all alternates cuz the real one are like 1000 bucks would that be ok

The Pink Tourmaline will probably be more durable for her. The Opal’s are so delicate, and can be damaged easily. Actually the Tourmaline would be more affordable, and with the affordability, you’d have more sustinance. I’d go for the Tourmaline if I were you, and would also look nice next to the Aquamarine.
Besides, if she really loves you, shouldn’t matter if you get her a ring with a buckeye for the set. She will love it anyway.
