Naming my Babies after Gemstones?

Posted by admin on October 26th, 2009 and filed under aquamarine gemstone | 17 Comments »

Now as you may already read i am pregnant with 6 little munchkins ! ( oh my ! )
But i am after some unusual / interesting / unique baby names.

Some i had in mind already

Paresly Sugar
Cinnamon Rainbow
etc.

But i had to get a beautiful name yet different , like naming them after gemstones. ( i am very keen on them )

Agate Vanadinite
Topaz Stillbite
Staurolite Spinel ( Stor-ro-lite )
Sodalite Smithsonite
Prehnite Opal ( Pre-night )
Nebula Muscovite
Larimar Herkimer Diamond
Emerald Chrysanthemum ( Chris-anth-tha-mum)
Bloodstone Aquamarine
Zeolite Wulfenite
Ulexite Shattuckite
Selenite Sardonyx
Rhyolite Jet

( i know there is more than 6 but all well. your opinion please ! )

Thankyou very much.
For more of my names and to get an ‘understanding’ of some of the other lovely names are ( that i had in mind )

God Bless.

Yes i know , im having 6 babies. Sorry if you don’t believe me , i feel very blessed to have such a great bundle !
Thankyou

I love the choice of names! And I really don’t understand when people say that kids will be picked on for having unique names. Mine is very unique and all I ever heard my whole life was compliments =)

Though I have to say Agate, Ulexite, and Shattuckite might actually bring on a lot of name-callings =S
Agate = A Gate
Ulexite = You’ll Excite
Shattuckite = ….A Kite
Just how they can be misheard when you say them >.<

And ou wouldn’t want your kids to be nickamed Blood…with Bloodstone.

I noticed you didn’t have Amethyst or Sapphire….I love these two gems as names =)

Personally I think all (yes all) of those names are absolutely awful, and furthermore I highly doubt that you are pregnant with six babies, you would make international news and I hate to say it but I haven’t seen any potential sextuplets mentioned ….

Picking unusual names, but yet keeping it in mind that noone wants them to be picked on because of their name – I would go with names like – Jade, Emerald, Topaz, Sapphire, Crystal, and Quartz.

How about Alexandrite? It’s a stone and it’s also very close to the name Alexandra.

    My favorites are:
    Opal
    Pearl
    Onyx
    Topaz

Cinnamon Rainbow LOL. It sounds like a cereal…WTF Parsley Sugar….gosh sorry i couldnt get past those for a while, not trying to be rude… Umm…I actually dont mind Agate, Topaz, Emerald, and Selenite. What about something more normal like Ruby? Opal for a first name? These are all gemstone names too:

Jasper, Kyanite, Emery, Vermillion, Scarlet, Burgundy, Indigo, Violet, Alexandrite, Alabaster, Crystal, Saphirra, Amethyst, Esmeralda, Carnelian, Jade, Micah, Onyx is kind of cool…Amber….stuff liek that? Well its your decision best of luck to you.

I’m sorry but these are all pretty bad except maybe Opal. Why do that to your kids? Give’em a nice, normal name. Or be prepared to invest in major therapy.

Some gosh awful names you’ve picked here and for 6 babies too!

God Help your babies when you really do have some.

P.S I have found people who are usually "private " are really just kids masquerading as adults .

Sorry to be rude but your 6 baby story is really hard to believe.

Some gemstones that work as names:
    Emerald
    Sapphire
    Crystal
    Jade
    Jasper
    Beryl
    Beryn
    Ruby
    Galena
    Amber
    Amethyst
    Calomel
    Opal
    Davyne
    Garnet
    Olivine
    Pearl

I’d stay away from names that end in "ite". It just doesn’t work as a name.

Or you could choose flower/plant names:
    Lily
    Rose
    Daphne
    Violet
    Heather
    Willow
    Rowan
    Linden
    Olive
    Heath
    Jasmine
    Ayla
    Melissa
    Fern
    Basil
    Aiyanna
    Rosemary
    Hazel
    Ivy
    Ginger

I’m sorry but I’m not a fan of those names, can you imagine poor little pre-school Ulexite trying to spell her name? or Rhyolite going for a job interview?!
Vanadinite looks like vegemite to me.
There are unusual names out there that aren’t quite SO unusual.
Congrats on your babies though! looks as though you’re in for a busy next 18 years!!

  16. Miranda Says:

You could go unusual without making the names ridiculous. Believe me they will get lots of attention for being sextuplets anyway. Give them names they can be proud of, and ones they won’t constantly be spelling out. I think Cinnamon and Parsley (even spelt correctly) are terrible names, sorry.

If you have to go gemstones why not go for ruby, opal, pearl, sapphire, emerald, topaz.

What about flowers – rose, iris, poppy, daisy, lily, heather, violet

or shakesperian women – juliet, rosalind, ophelia, imogen, hermione, audrey, emilia, phoebe, ursula, perdita, miranda,

or greek godesses – hundreds to choose from.

    Hope this helps. Good luck!
