I am getting ready to propose to my girlfriend. She wants an aquamarine engagement ring. I have found this one for sale. It is listed as an antique style aquamarine engagement ring. What do you think of it? They are asking $600 for it. What do you think? Do you like it?

Thanks!
Kiwi- We have discussed this with a jeweler already. We have gotten many opinion from professionals and all agree that an aquamarine is a more than suitable choice for an engagement ring.
That’s a gorgeous ring, but I have to disagree with the poster who thinks that’s a good price. I think you can do much, much better on the price by shopping around (especially online; there are lots of reputable online businesses).
And aquamarines are softer than rubies and sapphires, which are softer than diamonds – BUT, they are absolutely NOT too soft to wear daily. As long as your fiancee is aware that she needs to be a little more gentle with her ring (taking it off when working with her hands and such), then an aquamarine engagement ring will be just fine.
EDIT: All Beryl has a Mohs hardness scale of 7.5 – 8.0. That’s plenty hard for everyday wear.

Oh my I love it.
I think $600 is more than reasonable, I am surprised they are not asking for me.
Good Luck, and I hope the best for your marriage.

It doesn’t matter how pretty the ring is, and aquamarine is wayyyy to soft to be in an engagement ring. If she is wearing it every day, it will look like a river pebble in a couple of years (meaning it will scratch and chip very easily). The only stone suitable for everyday wear in a engagement ring are diamond, sapphire and ruby. That’s it. Perhaps go with a very light sapphire to symbolize the color of aquamarine without the risk of getting her a too-soft stone.
*Edit to the people who thumbs down me and tell you it is not too soft- A. Aquamarine is in The beryl family, so it is the same mineral as an emerald, only it’s blue. Kind of like ruby and sapphire are the same mineral (corrundum), but they are different colors. B. I have spent 2 years at the Gemological Institute of America studying gemstones. I am finishing up my final course (gem identification), and will be a Graduate Gemologist when i graduate this semester, what are there credentials to tell you this? C. I grew up in the jewelry industry, my dad is a jeweler and owns a jewelry store, which I work in, and I sell engagement rings every day.

It says the photos were deleted, but I love aquamarines, they’re beautiful. And antique style rings are beautiful too, so the two together is probably amazing. Good luck and congrats!

That’s a beautiful ring, but I have to disagree with the price. I think you can save LOTS OF MULA by shopping around (especially ONLINE there are tone of quality and reputable online jewelers). A great place to do research to make sure you are REALLy getting a good deal is http://www.pricescope.com. They have jewelry experts that are non-biased that will help you with this with NO PROBLEM! Not only that you can probably get a better price and quality by doing a little research!
As for the aquamarine you should definatly give her what type of stone she wants! Just be aware that they are a soft stone but there is not reason you can not create a setting that will defend the stone from the "outside forces". As long as you are aware of the gentle care you will need to take there should not be a problem.
