Just wearing wedding band, not band & engagement ring?

Just wondering if this is or is not common.
My fiance got an aquamarine engagement ring for me and I am having a very hard time finding a ring that will sit nicely next to it that will be the wedding band.
Someone suggested "just buy a standard wedding band and wear your engagement ring on your other hand".

What do you think? Will it look weird wearing my engagement ring on my right hand with just a band on my left?

I love my engagement ring. The difficulty is that the stone is set fairly low, it is a rectangular shape, so the band actuall "steps" out. I’ve tried ring wraps and guards, but they tend to be made for round center stones and they look a tad awkward with my rectangular ring. I can get away with it, but I am thinking of this idea of just wearing the band on my left hand.
What do you think?
A Custom made ring is out of our price-range. I looked at a curved band with small diamond chips that looked nice, nothing that screamed ‘thats the perfect band for my engagement ring’ and its price tag was $1,600.
We were only budgeting for $1,000 for both of our rings – we wanted to keep them simple.

I only wear my engagement ring as a wedding ring. I had the same problem. I couldn’t find a band that I liked with my ring. I just decided that I would only wear the engagement (now wedding) ring. I have gotten 2-3 snooty comments from people who are in the dark ages but most people don’t even notice.

Lots of people wear them together, but I think just the band is nice sometime, especially if you dont want a lot of bling everywhere you go :)

Why not have him get you a diamond (or aquamarine!) band to wear on your wedding-ring finger, and you can wear your aquamarine on your right ring finger.

It is ultimately up to you and you should do whatever will make you happiest.

You might try getting a custom-made band, if it’s within your budget.

It’s not a bad thing to wear just a wedding band. But your engagement ring sounds beautiful. With my engagement ring and wedding band it is not a set. I took my engagement ring to a jewler and told him what I kind of wanted. He made it from scratch and molded it together.

    Just a suggestion.

You can do whatever you would like.

Wear it on the other hand…wear it only on special occasions..whatever.

You could also contact designers and have a wedding band designed to fit your ring. How soon is the wedding?

Depending on the design and the metal you choose you may be able to do this reasonably.

Also try colleges that offer jewelry design..you may be able to get a student to do it less expensively.

My engagement ring is curvy and we were looking into this before we found a ring that was literally made for this one!

    good luck and congrats!

I’ll be wearing my engagement and wedding bands on separate hands. My engagement ring is a princess stone in a cathedral solitaire setting. Wedding bands just don’t look that good with it, even with the ring guards.

I wear a plain band at work as I don’t want to ruin my stone set ring. I only wear the band and it looks sweet and simple, you could always have a custom made band to fit perfectly with your engagement ring.

You could just wear your engagement ring as a wedding ring. If you don’t like that idea, I would say wear it on your right hand and get a band to wear on your left hand. Neither are very common, but I’ve seen it done nicely.

I also have a ring that would be difficult to fit and the jeweler who made my ring said that I should have one custom made when I get married. They also have rings that don’t connect all the way… I’m having a hard time finding a picture online for you, but instead of connecting in the front, the ends swish upward to lock into whatever band you have. That way it doesn’t interfere with the rock in the middle and you can have them saudered together if you like. Also note that they have bands like this (rectangular):

What I would do is go to your local jeweler and see what he/she can design for you. If price is an issue, it may not even be as expensive as you think if you make it thinner and simple.

If it were me, I wouldn’t wear my engagement ring on my right hand. I love it too much and honestly, it’s a lot prettier than a simple band on my left hand… but that’s just my opinion.

You can have one of the prongs on your engagement ring filed down a little so that the ring will sit flush against the wedding band. That’s what I had done for mine.

What about just a simple thin band? That’s what I’m getting – just got it yesterday actually. It’s a 3mm white gold band. It doesn’t take away from my 2mm 3 stone engagement ring.

    Good luck, and Congratulations!!!

I have seen plenty of women wear their engagement ring on their right hand and their wedding band on the left. Or vice versa. Also, in other cultures, people wear it on their right hand.

    Go for it!

have you tried taking the engagement ring (which sounds beautiful btw) to a jewelry store that designs & makes jewelry to see if they can custom make a wedding band to fit it? i’m willing to bet they could & would. check around in your local area, especially where your fiance bought the aquamarine.

btw, my husband just gave me a beautiful aquamarine necklace for our 9th anniversary on valentine’s day!

Just get a real simple gold band with no stones on it and wear them both together.

If you want a band that might work with the ring, try Littman Jewelers. My ring is in a square setting and I was having the same issue with finding a band that would sit under it properly. We went to Littmans looking for my fiance’s ring and they had one that has a rectangular bend in it instead of the normal triangular one, for solitaires and it fits perfectly. It’s only $200 too!

If you want to wear your engagement ring on your right hand though, I think that’s fine.

Actually my brothers wife has a huge engagement ring and a huge wedding band so she wears it on two diffrent hands. It doesn’t look strange to me at all.

That’s fine to wear them on different fingers. Lots of women only wear the wedding band.
Just another place to look for wraps – just in case something looks the right shape -
