Birthstone/ Mother rings?

Posted by admin on October 14th, 2009 and filed under aquamarine rings | 3 Comments »

I am looking into a ring or necklace with my daughter’s and my birthstone. When I was looking though it seems the birthstones have changed? I always thought it was:
January: Garnet
February: Amethyst
March: Aquamarine
April: Diamond
May: Emerald
June: Pearl
July: Ruby
August: Peridot
September: Sapphire
October: Opal
November: Yellow Topaz
December: Blue Topaz

Does anyone know if this for sure is right… this is what I have always known… but I see there are a lot more options!! Someone help. Thanks

The list you have is a traditional list and is still valid. There are all kinds of revisions of this list which can be considered if you want.

I think the other versions are for people that don’t like their birthstone or can’t afford it. Those people have an alternative.

My birthday is in December and I have heard blue zircon, turquoise, blue topaz, and blue sapphire all as the stone for that month.

It really depends on the jeweler. Some jewelers will only supply cheaper stones that are considered the same birthstones when they actually are not. For example:

    November: Precious Topaz
    December: Blue Zircon

With June and October…because these stones are not faceted, they don’t work well mixed with other stones, so you will usually see Alexandrite for June and Pink Tourmaline for October.

Here is a site that has all these birthstones – http://www.mothersfamilyrings.com

    Hope that helps!
