Question about your baby’s birthstone, stone too girly for a boy?

Posted by admin on September 22nd, 2009 and filed under aquamarine stone | 16 Comments »

I am due Feb. 23rd with a baby boy. This means that his birthstone will be Amethyst (purple) I think this is too girly for a boy and won’t be able to get him things with his birthstone and when he’s older he won’t want anything purple either (ie his class ring) So, I am secretly hoping that I have him March 1st, being my first pregnancy and all it is very likely i could have him six days late. Aquamarine is much better for a boy than Amethyst.

What is your take on this?
Anyone male or have a boy with amethyst birthstone or other girly month?

I mean technically it shouldn’t matter as long as the baby comes in time healthy and well [=. I do understand that you don’t want your boy to have a ‘girly’ birthstone, but you never know he might like purple one day. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Just imagine October! But it doesn’t matter, that’s just a superficial thing.

All of the stones are girly. I think that when he is older, he will appreciate it if you do not buy him much jewelery.

I’ve never seen a guy get anything with a birthstone but his class ring, and several guys in my graduating class had purple class rings, it wasn’t a big deal. No one made fun of them.

What on earth else would you get him? It’s not like he’s going to be wearing a rhinestone bracelet or something. Purple is not historically feminine only, it was a symbol of royalty (and still is in some parts of the world).

Worry less about his birthstone, and more about raising him. :)

its a birthstone it is not an issue its tha last thing you should be worrying about. I’ve never bought a boy a birthstone. You should be worrying about the baby being healthy not his birthstone. But since you asked. Most boys don’t care about birthstones and most class rings have the school stone not the birthstone. Fewer people I know get their birthstone.

Personally, I’m not sure why it matters. There’s no requirement that you have to get your son anything with his birthstone. That never even occurred to me at all when I was pregnant. Besides, every stone has variant shades, so I’m sure you can find a blue-ish purple amethyst if you really want to commemorate his birthday that way.

Another thing to remember is that your son might not even like jewelry and that makes it a moot point. Sure, you won’t know for years, but why worry about it now?

I personally like amethyst and have a few chunks of geodes. As far as jewelry and birthstones go, I think guys are less likely to wear jewelry with any birthstone in it except a class ring, which I don’t think would look bad with an amethyst in it.

Kind of funny that you are 7 months preggo and the thing you are worried about is his birthstone lol :) You don’t really buy a baby things with their birthstones anyway. Maybe if it was a girl you would get her ears pierced with it. When I was pregnant I was due Nov. 5th and my first baby came two weeks early so the thing I was worried about was having her on Halloween or being in the hospital and not being able to vote…which happened because she was born on Nov. 3rd and I wasn’t released until the 5th :( Just worry about preparing for the baby’s arrival. Good luck!

I know a guy who’s favorite color is purple. He is not a girly guy.
But anyway, guys don’t worry about their birthstone because they rarely wear jewelery.
