So my girlfriend and I started dating in March and I thought it would be unique to buy her an Aquamarine gemstone ring for Valentines day to represent the month we started dating. Is this a good idea or should I reconsider???

PS.. The ring i’m looking at also has two smaller diamonds on either side of the gem….

it’s a good idea

Do you like this engagement ring?

I am getting ready to propose to my girlfriend. She wants an aquamarine engagement ring. I have found this one for sale. It is listed as an antique style aquamarine engagement ring. What do you think of it? They are asking $600 for it. What do you think? Do you like it?

Thanks!
Kiwi- We have discussed this with a jeweler already. We have gotten many opinion from professionals and all agree that an aquamarine is a more than suitable choice for an engagement ring.

That’s a gorgeous ring, but I have to disagree with the poster who thinks that’s a good price. I think you can do much, much better on the price by shopping around (especially online; there are lots of reputable online businesses).

And aquamarines are softer than rubies and sapphires, which are softer than diamonds – BUT, they are absolutely NOT too soft to wear daily. As long as your fiancee is aware that she needs to be a little more gentle with her ring (taking it off when working with her hands and such), then an aquamarine engagement ring will be just fine.

EDIT: All Beryl has a Mohs hardness scale of 7.5 – 8.0. That’s plenty hard for everyday wear.

How much would a ring with an aquamarine birthstone in it cost?

Is there any problem if I don’t get my birthstone on my class ring?

Alright, I’m a guy, and I’m getting a class ring. I am also into the idea that certain stones give abilities to you (i.e. luck, health, knowledge, ect). I was thinking of getting a stone other than my birthstone. Will there be any negative spiritual effects if I don’t get my birthstone? Oh right, my birthstone is aquamarine, but i’m planning on getting topaz.

No there wont lol theres know such thing as luck get whatever u want

Aquamarine engagement ring.?

Posted by admin on November 12th, 2009 and filed under aquamarine ring | 13 Comments »

I really want an aquamarine engagement ring, but I’ve read different things about them. I know it has a hardness rating of around 7.5 to 8. The one I’m looking at has the aquamarine as the center stone, and it’s surrounded by diamonds.

Anyway, some websites say that aquamarine is suitable for everyday wear and others say it isn’t and that it’s more suitable for occasional wear. Since it would be my engagement ring I’d be wearing it pretty much everyday.

I really love the color, and I don’t want just a plain diamond ring, but I also want something that is durable. My boyfriend and I don’t know much about rings, and we’re getting tired of searching for a definitive answer. Any help would be appreciated.
Educated Women- Engagement rings are not only diamonds, and I certainly wasn’t aware that you only had to wear your birthstone. I guess I should get rid of my amethyst jewelry. I don’t care if people don’t think it’s an engagement ring. I will.

Everyone else: I didn’t mean to refer to diamonds as plain. I think they are beautiful, I just don’t prefer them. Thanks for the responses!

I have a ring with a large aquamarine oval stone in the middle and little circle diamonds all around. (my birthstone for March) I have worn it as an occasion ring, but also quite often to work and it has held up very well. I think it is a great idea to have an engagement ring that is out of the norm! The only problem I have had with my ring is the prong settings around the outside. I have lost two of the small diamonds so far, and getting them replaced is expensive! So, coming from a person who is hard on jewelry, I would say go with the aquamarine!

what is the best way to clean aquamarine jewelry?

Posted by admin on October 30th, 2009 and filed under aquamarine ring | 1 Comment »

I have an aquamarine and diamond engagement ring and i was wondering what is the best way to clean the aquamarine. I understand it is semi-precious so you have to be careful with it, but also with the nature of the stone it tends to pick up dirt etc and look cloudy vs sparkly and new. When i get it cleaned at the jewelers it looks brand new again, as I have a really expensive high end aquamarine, but at home no such luck. Any tips?

Your jeweler may be using solvent in an ultrasonic cleaner. Since you don’t have that option, try using an old toothbrush and liquid detergent.

What makes gemstones dull is light "leakage"

A grease spot on the pavillion (back) of a gem alters what should be a gem/air interface. Now there is a gem/grease interface.

What that does is light pass through rather than being reflected back through the crown and to the eye.

So cleaning the back side of the gem is just as, or more, important, than cleaning the crown (top).

NOTE: Work over a towel or washcloth rather than over a bathroom or kitchen sink. If that ring is dropped, it might damage a stone or setting.

What would look pretty with this engagement ring?

What kind of band would you put with this?
My engagement ring looks similar to this. It is aquamarine and the same setting, only the center stone is slightly smaller and the ring is much much more high quality ($700 for just the ring). What kind of band do you think would look nice with this? Do you think a wrap would look nice or just a single band? Pictures would be nice. Thanks!

You are going to have to get a band which has a curve – but you will have to try different kinds to see what fits/matches…

What would this ring cost?

What would a ring like this typically cost if it had one row of Aquamarine and one row of Opal instead of diamonds?

Depends if its white gold or silver..
If it’s white gold then it is probably around 400-500..
If its silver probably 100-200..
Maybe even less..
depends where you get it..

Which ring would be best for an engagement ring?

My fiance and I have decided to start off with a modest ring (we’re both pursuing master’s degrees and can’t afford too much). We want to use his birthstone (aquamarine) which I think is beautiful and unconventional. I am having a hard time deciding which is the most appealing setting and would like some feedback. I have narrowed it down to 3:

engagement ring question…?

Posted by admin on September 28th, 2009 and filed under aquamarine ring | 30 Comments »

do all engagement rings have to have a diamond? My fiance asked me what i wanted so he could pick the right one and i’ve decided i’m not really into diamonds. I was kinda wanting the stone to be my mother’s birthstone (an aquamarine) because i thought it would be neat to have instead of a white diamond. My mother passed away 2 years ago so i thought it would kinda be a lil more special….. is this weird?

An engagement ring can be whatever you want it to be! It’s your ring! I think personalizing your engagement ring and honoring your mother like that would be a beautiful thing to do, and not weird at all. Tell your fiance you’d rather have an aquamarine and not a diamond. Your ring will mean more to you that way. Congratulations!
